Why not extend your holiday with a week relaxing in Hammamet, known as Tunisia's 'garden resort'? On day 8 (Sun) of your tour you will be transferred to your hotel for a week's stay before returning to Tunis airport the following Sunday for your flight to the UK.

Your itinerary
Day 1: UK - Tunis - Hammamet.
Fly to Tunis where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Hammamet.

Day 2: Hammamet - Sousse - Monastir - Mahdia - El Djem - Sfax.
This morning drive to Sousse. Stop in the medina and visit the Mosque and then on to Monastir to visit the old town and finally this morning we enjoy one more stop in Mahdia. In the afternoon we travel to El Djem to visit this impressive heritage site with the remains of an imposing 3rd century Roman colosseum, originally seating 30,000 people. Next stop is Sfax on the Gulf of Gabes, a former stronghold of Barbary pirates and now Tunisia's second largest city.

Day 3: Sfax - Gabes - Matmata - Tamezret - Douz.
After a visit to the Medina of Sfax we journey to Gabes, famous for its spice market. We then visit Matmata to see the amazing underground troglodyte village, used in the original 'Star Wars' movie and inhabited until the 1960s. Make another short stop in Tamezret with its stone houses and streets lined with high walls. We continue our journey to the desert outpost of Douz where you will have the opportunity to take an optional camel ride in the desert.

Day 4: Douz - Kebili - Chott El Jerid - Tozeur.
Travel via Kebili to cross the salt lake of Chott El Jerid to Tozeur, an important oasis on the ancient caravan route between Algeria and Tunisia, for an overnight stay. How about an exciting optional jeep excursion to the mountain oasis of Chebika? And in the evening there's a chance to join us for an optional folklore show with dinner excursion.

Day 5: Tozeur - Red Lizard Train - Gafsa - Sbeitla - Kairouan.
After breakfast, we drive to Metlaoui Selja to board the 'Old Bey's' train, now called the 'Red Lizard'. Prepare to be enthralled as we take a spectacular two-hour rail journey through the Gorges of Selja with plenty of opportunity for stunning photography. After lunch in Gafsa, we travel to Sbeitla where a visit to the Roman ruins is included. Then it's on to the once sacred city of Kairouan for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Kairouan - Dougga - Tunis.
After a visit to Kairouan's Grand Mosque, we journey to El Fahs, then on to Dougga for lunch and a visit to the Roman remains, the most extensive in Tunisia, spectacularly set against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. We then head for the capital city, Tunis, your base for the next two nights.

Day 7: Carthage & Sidi-Bou-Said.
A delightful blend of ancient and modern, Tunis has a colourful medina and a contemporary city centre. Included are excursions to the ancient ruins of the city of Carthage and the traditional village of Sidi-Bou-Said, and also the famous Bardo Museum, which houses some of the finest Roman mosaics in the world.
