Estoril Coast
Why not extend your holiday with a week on the beautiful Estoril Coast? With a mediterranean type climate and great beaches, Estoril is an ideal base for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
On day 8 of your tour (Sun) you will be transferred to the hotel of your choice, either the Lido Estoril or the Vila Gale Estoril for a week's stay before returning to Lisbon for your flight to the UK.
Stretching over 30km to the west of Lisbon, the beautiful Estoril coast enjoys a Mediterranean-type climate and boasts a long, wide stretch of south-facing beach. Spanning from Carcavelos, just 15km from Lisbon, to Guincho, the Estoril Coast is nestled at the foot of the Sintra hills and has much to offer visitors. Steeped in history and culture, there is plenty to see and do, perhaps soak up the sun on Tamariz beach, enjoy a stroll through the area's beautiful gardens, have a flutter in Estoril Casino, the largest in Europe, play a few rounds at one of the well renowned golf courses, or venture further afield to visit some of the local towns and beaches. Nearby, the former fishing village of Cascais is a bustling, lively town with luxury boutiques set side-by-side with outdoor cafés, restaurants and a modern marina; also along the coast is picturesque Parede, famed for its mineral-rich waters - believed to have therapeutic qualities.

Day 1: UK - Lisbon.
Fly to Lisbon where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Lisbon - Tomar - Fatima - Coimbra.
This morning start your journey northwards to reach Tomar for sightseeing. You'll visit the Templar Castle and Convent of the Knights of Christ. Its history goes back to 1160 when it was built as a convent fortress as the headquarters of the Knights' Templars of Portugal. It was this order which a few hundred years later financed Prince Henry the navigator, its grand Master during his great expeditions of the African coast and Indies. Next stop is Fatima. Mix with the pilgrims at the country's hallowed national shrine, Fatima's Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary. Further north to Coimbra for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Coimbra - Viseu - Lamego - Villa Real - Oporto.
Start your day with an included orientation tour of Coimbra. Famous for its university and a very inspiring and romantic location on a hillside just above the River Mondego. Next journey to Viseu famous for its DAO vineyards. Stop in Lamego not far from the Douro Valley. Later this afternoon travel to the foot of the Serra Do Marao for a short stop in Villa Real to visit the gardens of Portugal's most famous villa, the 'Casa de Mateus' - prettily surrounded by orchards and vineyards. Finally to Oporto for two nights.

Day 4: Oporto.
Join the included sightseeing with local guide in Oporto this morning, taking in many of the city's highlights. This afternoon, don't miss out on the optional visit to nearby Guimaraes known as the 'Cradle of Portugal' since it was here that the young Alfonso Enriques who after defeating the Moors in 1139 was proclaimed King of Portugal by his own troops.

Day 5: Oporto - Batalha - Alcobaca - Obidos - Lisbon.
Drive south for a day full of interesting highlights. First stop is Batalha to visit its magnificently gabled monastery, a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic and Manueline architecture. By way of Alcobaca reach Obidos for a stop. This fortified city is flanked by round towers and bastions overlooking the countryside dotted with windmills. Finally to Lisbon for three nights.

Day 6: Lisbon.
Henry the Navigator made Lisbon the 15th-century mistress of the seas. On your included city sightseeing with local guide, you'll see his monument, the Belem Tower, the Moorish Citadel and impressive Black Horse Square and other highlights. Later take advantage of the program of optional excursions.

Day 7: Lisbon - Evora - Lisbon.
Today an included excursion to Evora, a walled city built by the Romans but now almost totally Moorish-looking. Return to Lisbon in time to enjoy an optional farewell dinner.

Day 8: Lisbon - UK.
Transfer to Lisbon airport for your flight to the UK.
