Day 3: Oberammergau - Linderhof & Neuschwanstein castles visit.
Today, witness two of the most stunning Hapsburg family fairy tale residencies: the castles of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein. Both built by Ludwig II, Linderhof was inspired by the Palace of Versailles and developed into an opulent and luxurious abode. Spend time admiring the sumptuous interior, laden with gold, gilded furnishings, rich fabrics and awesome chandeliers. In the afternoon, head to the spectacular, neo-romantic Neuschwanstein Castle, the most photographed building in Germany and inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. This fairy tale-styled castle is perched high on the slopes of the Alps in a dominant cliff-top position overlooking the idyllic Hohenschwangau Valley. After exploring the opulent, frescoed interior and admiring the breathtaking valley views, return to Oberammergau.

Day 4: Oberammergau.
The choice for the day's activities is yours: you may choose to spend time in the pretty village of Oberammergau, searching out the unique 'lüftlmalerei' which adorn the village and depict traditional Bavarian themes. Perhaps visit the architecturally ornate Pilatus House, a museum depicting 500-years of woodcarving, lüftlmalerei fresco-styled wall paintings and pottery as well as an active workshop that demonstrates the intricate methods of woodcarving and lüftlmalerei. Alternatively, enjoy an optional excursion to the scenic Lake Ammer area (Ammersee). Also close by is the famous Andechs Monastery and brewery. Visit the 15th century Benedictine cloister to fully experience the serene 'Holy Mountain' location, breathtaking views, elegantly designed buildings and of course, the world famous beer.

Day 5: Oberammergau - Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Drive amongst awe-inspiring alpine scenery today en route to the nearby town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Former home to the composer Richard Strauss, the area is now a famous and exclusive ski resort. Previously two separate villages, Garmisch and Partenkirchen were combined into one town to host the 1936 Winter Olympics. Although combined, the two areas still afford very different impressions: Garmisch is a modernist, thriving area whilst Partenkirchen retains a market town feel with cobbled streets, pretty frescoed walls, and a history that goes back to Roman times. Enjoy the lovely alpine scenery and fresh mountain air as you explore today. Alternatively an optional cable car ride is available.

Day 6: Oberammergau.
You have another free day to relax and enjoy the alpine landscapes of Oberammeragau. Perhaps visit the Passion Play Theatre to see the props and costumes used to bring this masterpiece to life, or maybe pay a visit to the rococo-styled parish church of St Peter and St Paul with it's double organ loft and painted trompe l'oeil styled roof. Alternatively, for those who wish to venture further afield, you could join the optional excursion into Austria to discover the beauty of Innsbruck - perhaps wander through the old town and stop to marvel at the Gothic and Baroque styled Golden Roof, or explore the city and its lovely architecture including the Imperial Palace and Church, Ambras Castle, St Jacob's Cathedral or Wilten Basilica.

Day 7: Oberammergau - Murnau - Munich.
Bid farewell to Oberammergau this morning as you begin your journey back to Munich. Enjoy a stop en route in Murnau am Staffelsee, described for its lovely scenery as 'picture-book Bavaria' and the 'Blue Land'. Spend time exploring this delightful alpine town, perhaps taking in the sights of the medieval castle and museum, or simply relaxing and taking a stroll along the pedestrianised shopping street. This afternoon, continue to Munich and arrive in time to enjoy an optional Bavarian evening with dinner and entertainment.
