Your itinerary
Day 1: UK - Madrid.
Fly to Madrid where you'll be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Madrid - Salamanca - Coimbra.
West to fortified Avila, then on to Salamanca where you can wander around the Plaza Mayor, the most beautiful square in Spain. Then head westward to Coimbra, strategically situated on a hill overlooking the Mondego River for overnight.

Day 3: Coimbra - Fatima - Lisbon.
Enjoy an included orientation drive in Coimbra. Then on to Fatima where you'll visit the Sanctuary made famous by the Virgin's apparition to three shepherd children on the 13 May 1917. A few more miles for a stop in Obidos, a fortified city still flanked by round towers and bastions overlooking the countryside dotted with windmills. Continue to Lisbon for two nights.

Day 4: Lisbon. Included sightseeing.
Henry the Navigator made Lisbon the 15th-century mistress of the seas. You'll see his monument, the Belem Tower, the Moorish Citadel, the impressive Black Horse Square and other highlights on the sightseeing excursion with a local guide. Spend the afternoon in the Alfama's tile-decorated streets, or take an optional excursion to coastal Estoril and Cascais.

Day 5: Lisbon - Seville.
Drive this morning southwest through verdant Portuguese countryside into the Alentejol. Then onto the border at Vila Verde and cross into Spain for the journey into Andalusia, enjoying quite different scenery as you skirt the Sierra de Aracena before reaching delightful Seville for two nights.

Day 6: Seville. At leisure.
Perhaps you'd like to spend this morning enjoying an optional sightseeing tour including the main highlights of this vibrant city.

Day 7: Seville - Cordoba - Madrid.
Drive northward, by way of Carmona, an old world country town dominated by an ancient Alcazar, to Cordoba. This is perhaps Spain's most Moorish city with its great mosque, one of Islam's greatest pieces of architecture outside the Arab world, now a catholic cathedral since 1236. Later into the very heart of La Mancha, famed for its castles and windmills. Arrive in Madrid for two nights.

Day 8: Madrid. Included sightseeing.
Not only because it is the capital of Spain, but because it is situated 2,180 feet above sea level, the Spaniards say Madrid is the nearest thing to heaven. Enjoy the main highlights on the included sightseeing excursion with local guide. You may like to join the optional trip to Toledo.
