Your itinerary
8-Day Roman Break
- Day
1 - Express overnight journey towards Italy.
- Day
2 - Afternoon arrival at our hotel in the Rome area
where we stay for five nights. B,D
- Day
3 - Castel Gandolfo and Frascati (included). We pay
a short visit to the small town of Castel Gandolfo (home of the
Pope's summer residence), overlooking Lake Albano, then through the
countryside to Frascati, where we have the chance to sample the
region's famous wine. B

4 - Rome (included). A full day discovering the
delights of the 'eternal city'. Our guided sightseeing tour
(included) takes in St. Peter's Square, the Trevi Fountain and the
Romans' greatest amphitheatre - the Colosseum! B
- Day
5 - Rome (included) & the Vatican (optional). A
further chance to explore Rome, perhaps revisiting some of
yesterday's sights. Spend the morning discovering the treasures of
the Vatican on our optional tour. Escorted by a local guide, you
will take in the awe-inspiring frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. In
1508 Pope Julius della Rovere commissioned Michelangelo to repaint
the Chapel's ceiling. He was later commissioned to paint 'The Last
Judgement' over the altar. We will also visit St Peter's Square
where some of the most important Papal ceremonies take place.

6 - Ostia Antica (optional). Surviving erosion and
stone scavengers, this fantastic ancient Roman village contains
some of the best-preserved and historically-significant Roman
excavations in the world. Must-sees include the theatre and the
public latrine, complete with revolving door, running water and
seating for twenty! B
- Day 7 -
We begin our express overnight journey north. B
- Day 8 -
We continue to Calais, then return home.
