- Day 4 - Nice
& Eze (included). We begin our day in the medieval
village of Eze. Perched high above the Mediterranean, the village
offers a spectacular view of the surrounding scenery, and boasts
narrow streets filled with quaint craft shops and art galleries.
This afternoon we continue to fashionable Nice, the largest resort
on the Mediterranean coast and the fifth largest city in France.
You will have the afternoon free to explore all the city has to
offer, including the old town, with its pastel facades and ornate
balconies, and the flourishing Promenade des Anglais, where the
grand hotels and exclusive boutiques provide a delightful place to
relax. B, D
- Day 5 - St.
Paul De Vence and Cannes (optional). We cross the border
into France to visit St. Paul de Vence. This beautiful fortified
medieval village has been, and still is today, home to some very
famous painters. Wander around the cobblestone streets, admire the
paintings, craft shops and boutiques, and soak up the atmosphere of
a village that dates back to the 1500s. We end the day in Cannes,
famed for the International Film Festival that takes place each
May. Its most famous thoroughfare, Boulevard de la Croisette, is
lined with hotels, boutiques and gardens on one side and fine
coastal beaches on the other. B,
D
- Day 6 -
Monaco and Monte Carlo (optional). We visit the
Principality of Monaco, whose eight square miles form the smallest
and almost certainly wealthiest sovereign state. There is a
fascination with Monaco's ruling Grimaldi family, especially since
Prince Ranier III's marriage to the former film star Grace Kelly.
One of the few autocratic monarchies left in the world, the
relationship between Monaco and France is an interesting one. Any
new law passed in France is automatically sent to the ruler of the
Principality. If he likes it, it becomes a law in Monaco; if not,
it doesn't! Spend time in probably the most famous part of Monaco,
Monte Carlo. Rub shoulders with the rich and famous, or, if you
feel lucky, take your chances in the famous Grand Casino where the
lavish interiors are still decorated in the Belle Epoque style.
B, D
- Day 7 -
Santa Margherita and Portofino (optional). Travel to Santa
Margherita, an attractive resort revolving around a thriving
marina. You have time at leisure to explore the town's two seaside
squares, Piazza Martiri della Liberta and Piazza Vittorio Veneto,
and the Basilica di Santa Margherita, just off the seafront on
Piazza Caprera. The church is well worth a visit to view the
extravagant, gilded, chandeliered interior. During our visit to
Santa Margherita, you will have the opportunity to join us on a
boat cruise (optional) to the exclusive resort of Portofino
(weather permitting). Once a refuge for struggling artists, the
town has become one of Italy's most fashionable resorts. The
harbour is moored with ocean-going yachts of the rich and famous,
and its pedestrian-only streets are crammed with a galaxy of
designer names and stylish restaurants. B, D
