UK to Rome
Fly from the UK to Rome and make yourself comfortable at the
central Hotel Palatino (4 diamond). With the rest of the day at
leisure, relax at your hotel or explore under your own steam.
2. Rome to Sorrento
Spend a full morning sightseeing in Italy's capital, taking in
highlights such as the Piazza Navona, Capitol Square, St Peter's
Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. This afternoon, head
south to the city of Sorrento. The 3 diamond La Residenza, set
about 20 minutes' walk from the heart of the town, becomes your
home for the next five nights. B D
3. Pompeii
Today, visit the legendary archaeological site of Pompeii, one
of the high points of your tour. A former Roman colony, the entire
city was famously buried by a cloud of ash and lava during the
eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD, which has preserved it extremely
well. As Pompeii has gradually been unearthed, a wealth of mosaics,
architecture, sculpture and even the skeletons of some of the
volcano's victims have been excavated and carefully studied. Enjoy
a guided tour of this remarkable site, including the town's former
shops, public buildings, temples and amphitheatre, before returning
to Sorrento for some time to do as you please. B D
4. The Isle of Capri or
Sorrento
Sail from the Amalfi coast to the romantic Isle of Capri in the
Bay of Naples on today's optional trip. Discover the Piazza Umberto
I main square, the monastery of Certosa San Giacomo and the
Augustus gardens on a tour of the highlights. Alternatively, you've
a free day in Sorrento. B D
5. Amalfi coast
Admire some of Europe's most gorgeous views as you traverse the
Amalfi coast, visiting the villages of Positano, Amalfi and
Ravello, spectacularly terraced into the slopes of the mountains. B

6. Naples or
Sorrento
Tour Naples, capital of the Sorrento region, on today's optional
trip. Take in views of the bay and Mount Vesuvius, enjoy a walk
through the historical old centre, and see the city's sights on a
coach tour, including the San Carlo Theatre, Galleria Umberto I,
Piazza del Plebiscito and the Royal Palace. Otherwise, you're free
to do as you choose on your last day in Sorrento. B D
7. Sorrento to Rome
Leaving the Sorrentine peninsula, return to Rome for a second
night at the 4 diamond Hotel Palatino. Experience the romance of
the city's ancient monuments on this evening's optional tour, with
the chance to see the Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, St Peter's
Basilica and Castel Sant'Angelo floodlit against the night sky.

Journey to Rome airport for your flight back to the UK. B
