Reaching Tokyo this morning, go straight to the
centrally-located New Takanawa Prince Hotel (3 diamond), your home
for three nights. This afternoon you are free to settle in and
enjoy your new surroundings.
3. Tokyo
This morning's city tour of Tokyo includes several of the main
attractions, particularly the Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace
Plaza, the Asakusa Kannon Temple and the Nakamise arcade - one of
the oldest shopping streets in Japan. This afternoon is at leisure
for you to explore at your own pace.
4. Tokyo
Today is free for you to spend as you please: enjoy the hotel's
facilities, explore the city further, or shop. Alternatively, join
us on one of the optional tours and discover the historical
heritage and stunning scenery of Tokyo's suburbs. Visit the Toshogu
Shrine, Lake Chuzanji and Kegon Waterfall on a day trip to Nikko,
or spend the afternoon exploring Kotokuin Temple in Kamakura on a
walking tour.
5. Tokyo to Fuji and Hakone
National Park
Traverse the Chuo Expressway to the stunning Five Lakes area at
the base of Mount Fuji. After visiting Lake Kawaguchi, head up to
the fifth station of Mount Fuji (weather permitting) for
spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Journey back
though the Owakudani Valley and enjoy a cruise on Lake Ashi before
the nearby Hakone Palace Hotel (3 diamond) welcomes you for an
overnight stay.
6. Hakone to Kyoto
Admire the views of Mount Fuji as you cross Ten Province Pass
today, en route to Atami or Mishima. Board the Japanese Rail
Shinkansen bullet train for your afternoon journey to Kyoto, and
check in at the 3 diamond Karasuma Kyoto hotel in the heart of the
city for your three-night stay.
7. Kyoto
Enjoy a morning's city tour of Kyoto, one of Japan's only
ancient cities to escape bombing in World War II and home to
traditional tea houses and geisha. Take in sights such as the Nijo
Castle and the Kinkakuji Temple before experiencing a traditional
Japanese tea ceremony. The rest of the day is up to you.
8. Kyoto
Today is free for you to take one of the optional excursions
available, which include an afternoon tour of the nearby town of
Nara, Japan's original capital city. Alternatively, explore Kyoto
under your own steam: you could visit the Nishiki-kiji market, take
a look around the Kyoto National Museum, or stroll in the
Maruyama-koen park.
9. Kyoto to London
Head to Osaka Kansai International Airport for your morning
Japan Airlines flight to London Heathrow, where your door-to-door
driver will meet you.
Travel notes Japan has always
been regarded as one of the more expensive destinations to visit
but we are pleased to say it has become more affordable than ever.
Sampling Japanese food adds to the whole experience. Chopsticks are
used throughout the country but Western cutlery, as well as Western
cuisine, is also available at most places. You'll find the overall
pace of this tour is reasonably relaxed as we've allowed for lots
of free time, no long days and only one single-night stay. You'll
need to pack an overnight bag for your one-night stay in Hakone, as
space is limited on the following day's train journey to
Kyoto.
