Classic Music of Europe
Follow in the footsteps of Europe's greatest composers, Bach,
Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven, on marvellous new holiday
discovering their lives, their homes and the inspirations for their
great music. We travel into Germany, visiting Eisenach, birthplace
of Bach, continuing to Prague to admire one of Europe's most
beautiful cities. The imperial city of Vienna, associated with
Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven is our next stop, before we continue
to Salzburg and Mozart's birthplace, and finally Beethoven's House
in historic Bonn. In addition, enjoy one of the splendid highlights
of this holiday,a Classical concert in the elegant Austrian
capital,Vienna.

Your itinerary
Day 1: UK to N.France
We travel to Dover from where we take the cross-channel ferry to
Calais. We rejoin our coach and journey into Northern France for an
overnight stay at our three star standard hotel. (D)
Day 2: N.France to Kassel
We cross the border into Germany to Kassel for dinner and an
overnight at the Ramada Treff Plaza (4*) (B,D)
Day 3: Kassel to Eisenach and Leipiz
We leave Kassel today and travel to Eisenach where we enjoy some
time at leisure. Eisenach was the birthplace of Johann Sebastian
Bach and his family members were the official town musicians for
generations. Bach was baptised at the Gothic Georgenkirche, which
stands in the middle of the market. The Reformer Martin Luther
also lived in Eisenach for a time and translated the New Testament
into German at the mighty Wartburg Castle, which overlooks the
town. The castle is reputed to be the setting for the singing
contest immortalised in Wagner's Tannhauser. We continue to Leipzig
where you can see St Thomas' Church, where Bach served as
Choirmaster for 27 years. We also have an included visit to the
Bach Museum housed in the Bosehaus, a 17th century Baroque
building. We stay in Leipzig for two nights at the Ramada Treff

Day 4: Leipzig
Enjoy an optional guided tour today or explore the beautiful city
of Leipzig under your own steam. There are many interesting places
to visit in the city including the Town Hall and the Auerbach
Keller Restaurant which was the setting for a scene in Goethe's
play Faust. (B,D)
Day 5: Leipzig to Dresden and Prague
We drive to historic Dresden, a city where many buildings, have
been restored to their former glory, following destruction during
the Second World War. You can join an optional guided tour or
explore on your own. Dresden is also home to the world famous
Semper Opera House, an imposing Neo-Renaissance style building.
Continuing our journey we cross the border into the Czech Republic
to reach Prague for two nights at the InterOlympik Hotel

Day 6: Prague
Enjoy a day at leisure in the glorious city of the Czech Republic,
Prague, widely regarded as one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
We will provide an optional guided walking tour in order to make
the most of your visit. Concert opportunities abound in the Old
Town where small venues hold regular daily concerts to delight
music lovers. The Opera House is famed for holding the spectacular
events often performed at Covent Garden, but at reasonable
prices.
Day 7: Prague to Vienna
We leave Prague and travel to Vienna, arriving in time to attend an
included classical concert by the Wiener Residenz Orchester, which
features works by both Mozart and Strauss. We enjoy two nights at
the Trend Lasselle Hotel (4*)(B,D)
Day 8: Vienna
A day at leisure in Vienna for you to explore this wonderful
imperial city and perhaps independently walk the 'Music Mile'. The
walk begins at Vienna's leading music theatre and passes the Vienna
State Opera House, Mozart's flat where he composed The Marriage of
Figaro, Strauss's flat where he composed The Blue Danube and
Beethoven's House. An optional guided city tour by coach is also
available, featuring the wonderful sights of Vienna, including the
Spanish Riding School, home to the Lippizaner horses, the
Schonbrunn palace and much more. (B,D)
Day 9: Vienna to Salzburg
We travel to Salzburg today, where we settle in at the Trend Europa
Hotel (4*) for two nights. (B,D)
Day 10: Salzburg
We spend a day in Salzburg with an included visit to Mozart's
birthplace Museum, offering fascinating insights into the famously
prodigious childhood of one of the world's greatest composers.
There will be an optional guided city tour in the afternoon
covering all the highlights if this wonderful city including the
Barque buildings in the Old Quarter, the churches and of course
Hohensalzburg Fortress. (B,D)
Day 11: Salzburg to Lahnstein
We head back into Germany for two nights at the Mercure Lahnstein
Hotel (4*)(B,D)
Day 12: Bonn
A full day excursion to historic Bonn, where we enjoy included
entrance to Beethoven Haus, the composer's birthplace Museum.
There will be ample free time to sample the delights of this
post-war capital of 'West' Germany before returning to Lahnstein.

Day 13: Lahnstein to Belgium
We return to Belgium today with time at leisure en route in the
city of Brussels with an optional guided tour, before eventually
settling in for an overnight stay at our three star standard hotel.

Day 14 Belgium to UK
We take the Calais-Dover ferry and return home with fond memories
and perhaps a few musical mementos of our classical tour. (B)
